Apparently the limit isn't enforced. But if the boat can't sail so you have to be helicoptered off the island then you could be in for a large excess baggage bill!

this is true, not enforced unless choppered off.  sure we'll be able to cope if any slight
excess my shifting but ill just stay on the island, sleep in the pub and wait for the boat :-)

Sleeping
You need a sleeping bag (and ear plugs!)

Eating
there is one well equipped kitchen
there is a shop not too pricey
communal meals wil work
Pub does some pretty good reasonable priced meals (around 8 quid a main) and some expensive ones

Route Approaches
Lundy is practically all sea cliffs (a couple of litte inland butresses). Many
require ab descents. A whole mini island is e asier with a inflatable dinghy !
Its worth thinking of how we are to get to them.  Quite alot of walking involved
though flat, comfy trainers advised

YAC somewhere has a long caving rope suitable for abbing. Static is preferable but
old dynamic single ropes are fine.  Most abs are faily short (40m) and can be done on your
climbing ropes if your prefer, but some (American) require longer ropes (about 75m). Rope
protectors are useful (but rucsacs, old pair of jeans etc work just as well)

Racks
Pretty standard UK trad rack is required. Granite slabs take those funky little wires on harder
routes otherwise nothing special.

Ropes
Standard 5om 1/2 ropes or a single will suffice. Dont remember any super long pitches - any one got a guide to
hand

Guides
Theres only one proper guide the CC one

Lundy Aug 2011 / Book your ferry .... and who's paid
« on: June 08, 2011, 12:07:07 pm »
hi guys

(01271) 863636  (no interweb booking) travel  dates 20th to 27th august.  £58 return.

havinng collected the lions share of the money in, I'm going to pass you all ferry details now!  Passage to and from the island is via the island supply ship M.S.Oldenburg. I have this years list of departure times from Ilfracombe, which are a little later than when I last went - its now a 3pm departure, so it wont be strictly neccesary to travel down the night before. however you will need to be there an hour minimum before departure so it will still need to be an early start saturday morning - or if you want to travel the night before I have an accomodation list. Google shows the drive time as about 6 hours.

As usual with YAC travel, I'm going to leave it to you guys to make your own boat bookings but I will co-ordinate car shares a bit closer to the date. the number to ring for bookings is the Lundy Shore Office
(01271) 863636 your dates of travel are the 20th to 27th august and the price will be £58 return. You need to do this around now.
However if anyone really really cant organise their booking from where they are at the moment (eg it might be difficult for courtney as she is in canada right now) then email me and we'll sort it out.

Cheers
Peri

so cheap villas and lack of shops ???)

Although most routes are fully bolted, there is a classic 7-pitch trad route at Sa Gubia, grade 4+ (about HS), it has some in situ gear but take a trad rack. Well worth doing if you've not done it yet!

I found the emails about the place we got last time, but it's no longer listed on their website.
And the other place we considered, the website now only lists places in Costa Blanca.
But I think Traceeey's been looking?

we got any direct contact for them that was such a good place? wonder if DE has any more info

owners direct villas is another option

16th is bit bloody early only giving people a week and spmoe have to sort holidays etc - id suggest 2 weeks which is just about end of Jan. People kike pete evans seem to read their email once a week !

Hi Steve hope you had a good time

details  and link of the guide and  the car place and the are in the other post titled
'Details and Links Summary'. We have 3 copies of the guide already

as for partners - usually we go as a group to one or two places depending on the size of the place (number of routes at our grades) and the number of us. Last year we have been usually to one or two, sometimes 3 if people have target routes.  In theory we mix and match partners a bit, though that doesn't always happen and often people end up with their usual climbing partners (S&C, Julie&I
etc) but often on  single pitch place its easy to swap about as appropriate (2 years back i climbed / belayed with at least Pete B, Julie, Tracy, Carmen, Simon, Alan W)

As for gear as long as their are notional partners (ie S&C, J&I, T&P) leaves Cef, Pete E, Peri and you to sort 2  pairs.  Just need a rack and ropes (that we trust) between each pair, plus personal gear - there is a link on the summary page under 'Kit List'

Cheers

Sicily Mar 2010 / Re: CARS
« on: February 20, 2010, 11:03:40 pm »

been doing a bit of digging.

extra drivers are typically 5 quid per day, and some places charge 5 quid per day local road tax but others don't mention it - i am not sure if that means they don't charge it or just don't tell you

carhire3000.com seems about the best deal for a 'Compact' (bravo) at 138 + extra driver + excess

argusrenatls is a bit cheaper for basic one but close

are we looking at 3 medium-ish Compact cars

I assume that we are going to hire 3 cars and divide the costs - so we need to agree what we doing - if not speak up

Etna  - 5 hours each way is IMHO nuts  (York to Tyndrum - climb for a day and come back!) - but if people want to do it that up to them - but whose gonner drive ? might need 2 drivers on that car - Maybe if andrew is willing ?  Are there trains ?

not sure my sister lives near so we might go visit her on friday night but she's often away
so may go down Sat or even do the Tracy thing or some other people in cambridge !

so that's easy then ! - suggest we (J+I) sort ourselves out for now, and see what happens closer
to the date.

Cef is off radar again  ....
