Kit lists
Probably the same as last year!
http://www.yorkalpineclub.org.uk/members/mallorca

Although most routes are fully bolted, there are several multi-pitch trad routes around. Via Valacnianos (5+ - about VS) on the Penon de Ifach is probably within walking distance. Best of all is the Espolon Central on Puig Campana, north of Benidorm, an 11 pitch HS with an additional 4 pitches available for the speedy.

Scorchio!

Apparently the limit isn't enforced. But if the boat can't sail so you have to be helicoptered off the island then you could be in for a large excess baggage bill!

If anyone wants to buy one, urban rock are currently selling them for £19.50 post free (normal price £23)

who has copies ? (peri, debra, simon c will have!)

I haven't, but I will have by the time we go :-)

I've also got the Rockfax SW England book, which has a couple of pages on Lundy that are a complete waste of space unless you own the CC guide to tell you where the routes are!

Carmen and I are probably staying with my brother on Friday night. We might be able to take some kit down for someone.

Mallorca 2nd April 2011 / Flights
« on: February 10, 2011, 12:13:34 pm »
I've found a few flights, details below - there are plenty of others
(www.skyscanner.net is a good search tool) but these seem to offer the
best arrival/departure times.
Headline prices start at about £35 return, but I've given the prices
after adding on all the hidden extras. These prices were correct when
I looked but seem to change daily.

Carmen and I have booked with Monarch from Manchester as that gives us
a full day on the Sunday, and maybe even a couple of hours on arrival!

Manchester
Monarch
2nd: 09:00-12:35
10th: 19:55-21:30
£119

Birmingham
Ryanair
2nd: 13:05-16:30
10th: 12:20-13:55
£87

Leeds
Ryanair
2nd: 07:00 - 10:40
10th: 13:30-15:10
£112

Leeds
Jet2
2nd: 07:00 - 10:35
10th: 11:25 - 13:10
£130

See the 'Details and Links' page for details of who's on what flight

I'm not bothered - the island's small enough that we managed to get to crags on the other side of the island anyway.
Which crags have the longest walk ins? It maybe makes sense to be closer to these?

In the absence of any dissenting voices, we'll make it definitely Mallorca. I'll send out an email later asking for commitment, with a deadline of the end of the month.

Have we definitely decided on Mallorca? If so we should send another email asking for commitment.

Mallorca 2nd April 2011 / Re: Where to ?
« on: January 10, 2011, 10:16:33 pm »
We don't have to all fly from the same place. I expect most of us will opt for Leeds/Manchester/somewhere northern, as they're cheaper to get to and usually park at.
Personally I'll probably be guided by flight times, ie which gives us the longest trip. Which will partly be influenced by accommodation, whether there's scope for a Saturday to Sunday let.

It was James Villas, and the property was called Christi, everything was done via James.

I agree, 16th is too optimistic for YAC, end of the month is more realistic  :)

I found the emails about the place we got last time, but it's no longer listed on their website.
And the other place we considered, the website now only lists places in Costa Blanca.
But I think Traceeey's been looking?

Lots of options to get to Palma. Prices below are return flights excluding bags, booking fees, bribes, etc.
eg from Manchester (flybe) 3rd to 10th April, currently £22 return
Manchester (Easyjet) 2nd-9th £100 - so could go out with Easyjet vreturn with flybe for £63 ish
East Midlands (flybe) 2nd-9th £69
Leeds (Ryanair) 2nd-10th (Saturday to Sunday) £42
Liverpool (Ryanair) 2nd-10th (Saturday to Sunday) £56
etc

You don't really expect to get 12 people to commit to anything by tomorrow do you?!?!
The end of the month could be pushing it ;)

Surely you know by now that if YAC organised a trip to the Sahara Desert then it would manage to snow...

You can check in at the airport if you forget. Ryanair helpfully provide some computer terminals at the airport that you can use for this purpose - for which they charge a token fee of £10 per person each way :o
