Hi all
as you know we have the Camping Barn on Lundy island booked for seven nights from 20th august 2011.
The barn sleeps 14 so the anticipated cost will be in the region of £90 per person for the weeks accomodation, actual final cost will be dependent on 2011 prices. The barn itself is very nice - I'v had a peek in and its like one of the best climbing huts, "camping barn" is a bit of a misnomer. The island is a climbers paradise, with superb granite cliffs at every grade from three star diffs to E-silly, and the scenery and wildlife are superb (I'm going to sneak off for a snorkelling trip one day).
http://www.javu.co.uk/Climbing/Lundy/index.shtmlLundy is situated in the middle of the Bristol channel and you get to and from it by ferry which is a two hour trip either way and currently costs £56 return. The ferry runs to and from ilfracombe in north devon at around 11 am, so you will probably want to travel down the previous day and stop overnight in ilfracombe - there is a a really nice, cheap, backpackers hostel right by the harbour, or you could use one of the nearby campsites. There are also sailings from Bideford. You will need to book tickets for the fery about three months in advance (ie not yet) and i will remind people and give links and phone numbers round about this time. Ditto the hostel or camping - people dont need to sort this out till much nearer the time.
Now, to business. this is going to be a popular trip, and the club had to stump up a 30% deposit in advance, so we are asking people to put down a similar deposit -£30 - in advance to secure their places. The deposit isnt refundable, but if anyone really needs to back out they are unlikely to have any difficulty geting someone else to take their place - we had to book this far in advance because the island gets booked up so early!
So to secure your place, names and deposits to me (cheques to york alpine club, not me), because we are opening bookings now!
