LOGISTICS - Kit n stuff
« on: June 08, 2011, 12:55:36 pm »

Route Approaches
Lundy is practically all sea cliffs (a couple of litte inland butresses). Many
require ab descents. A whole mini island is e asier with a inflatable dinghy !
Its worth thinking of how we are to get to them.  Quite alot of walking involved
though flat, comfy trainers advised

YAC somewhere has a long caving rope suitable for abbing. Static is preferable but
old dynamic single ropes are fine.  Most abs are faily short (40m) and can be done on your
climbing ropes if your prefer, but some (American) require longer ropes (about 75m). Rope
protectors are useful (but rucsacs, old pair of jeans etc work just as well)

Racks
Pretty standard UK trad rack is required. Granite slabs take those funky little wires on harder
routes otherwise nothing special.

Ropes
Standard 5om 1/2 ropes or a single will suffice. Dont remember any super long pitches - any one got a guide to
hand

Guides
Theres only one proper guide the CC one

I would definately suggest an ab rope and prussics per team - if anyone abs down to the wrong route and finds they cant climb up again they will be needing a way out! some abseil and prussicing practice would be a good idea before we go - if anyone hasnt done this before I'm yac can  arrange a session between us

I might be able to borrow a 50 M static from a mate. If not, I've got a 50 M single I'm happy to use as an ab line. Other than that I'll be bringing a 50 M half rope. I can probably lay my hands on some protector sleeves too.

Cheers,
Pete.

I haven't, but I will have by the time we go :-)

I've also got the Rockfax SW England book, which has a couple of pages on Lundy that are a complete waste of space unless you own the CC guide to tell you where the routes are!

I've borrowed a CC Lundy guide from a friend. If anyone has particular routes in mind before we go, let me know and I'll put the photocopier at work to good use ;0)

Just had a look at the ferry ticket and there is a 20 kg weight limit on luggage. What's everyone doing about racks? All I'm thinking is that a trad rack, half rope, abb rope and clothing for a week is going to add up to more than 20 kg. Or do they not enforce it?

Apparently the limit isn't enforced. But if the boat can't sail so you have to be helicoptered off the island then you could be in for a large excess baggage bill!

Hi guys,

Cheers to Peri for circulating the CC tide tables, but just to make sure everyone is aware, those times are GMT. This time of year the tides are one hour later than shown on the table due to BST.

Cheers,
Pete.

this is true, not enforced unless choppered off.  sure we'll be able to cope if any slight
excess my shifting but ill just stay on the island, sleep in the pub and wait for the boat :-)
