June Camping Meet
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:03:37 pm »

The June meet is changing location - it will be in northumberland - same dates though 20-21st June.  Meet will be camping - with location and site details to follow.  Most sites in central northumberland appear to have become caravan only - but hopefully I have at last found a couple of possible camping sites.  Area should be suitable for the full range of activities - climbing (weather permitting), walking and biking.  If you are interested in coming along - please could you reply and let me know.

I am travelling up straight from work in Peterlee, to save 2 hours travelling so I will see people there. I expect to arrive at the campsite at arround 5.30pm

I think you'll be first there by a long way!

We'll be heading off straight from work (Wetherby).  Peri - not sure if there's scope for working something out here?

thanks simon, but I dont think thats practical, as I cant get to work without my car (well, not without getting up at 6.15 to get the bus - shudder, no thanks). its a fairly short journey for a yac meet anyway.

on another subject I guess you found your millstone plans snookered by the cars for the rave party at lawrencefield as we did. we ended up at curbar instead.

No, we'd already decided to go to Stanage instead.  Carmen made a fine ascent of Mississippi Buttress Direct, mostly in the rain, and I wimped out of the crux of a so-called severe - went round the hard bit, placed gear, and climbed back down.  It was at least VS 5a!
Then went to Rivelin on Sunday, a bit midgy but bearable, and totally deserted.  Which was nice :)

"it was at least VS 5a"

Similarly, I am certain that both Old Crack and S Crack at Ilkley were at least E11

I have done print outs of the rockfax pages for Peel Crag and Crag Lough, which look brilliant. lets hope we get the weather to get on them!

They are indeed brilliant.  But don't get your hopes up, it's rained up there quite a lot lately and they take ages to dry.

Our original plan was to go to Simonside.  This may or may not happen, depends on the timing of the (very) wet weather - which may arrive any time between Saturday lunch time and Saturday night, depending on which forecast you believe!

Edit: Met Office latest forecast says it'll stay dry until sometime betweeen 4pm and 7pm, then rain heavily overnight, followed by sunshine and showers on Sunday.

Latest from the Met Office says it's going to be raining by 1pm :o

Let's hope they're wrong.

P.S. For whoever gets there first (prob Peter), the booking is in carmen's name.  Of the 'possibles', Charles can't make it, not heard from Gordon P, and Rob's decided to join us at the last minute (as usual).

MWIS update for Cumbria (ie next door) is for heavy rain to arrive at lunchtime and last until mid-morning Sunday.
May need to rethink choice of crag!
