gates didn't seem to be much of a bother when we arrived at our house for Dave's wedding at midnight - Rob just spoke Spanish to them (whatever open Sesame is in spanish) and they opened.

On the subject of volunteer drivers.  If there are enough volunteers I rather not, but if necessary I will take on the challenge.

My driving history is three years in Hong Kong - I survived, which is an achievement, anyone that has been will understand the congestion and need to be a very very assertive driver, but at that time driving was on the left hand side, as here.  Last year I drove in France, first time on the right hand side.  Once I got the hang of it, I was fine.  Although the combination of bad road signs, gear stick on what I consider the wrong side and three unsympathetic teenage boys (who incidently didn't even drive at the time) was extremely stressful!  But we got there in the end! Unscathed as well!

If we are short of volunteers, perhaps I could be a second driver.  Having the advantage of studying the other driver, location and car before jumping straight in.

OK, we're going to have a total of 5 cars.

Car 1.  Andrew and Karen (who will usually be going to different places from the climbers)
Car 2.  David, picking it up in Granada so we can't add any extra drivers.
Car 3.  Drivers Simon and Carmen
Car 4.  Drivers Tracy and ?
Car 5.  Drivers Cef and ?

Debbie and Sally have said (with varying degress of emphasis!) that they'd rather not drive.

Nobody else has said anything.

So, can we have 2 more volunteers please!

Next question, what size cars shall we get?

Citroen C2 3 door A/C or similar is £80.15
Renault Clio 3 door A/C £82.71
Renault Clio 5 door A/C £84.33
Ford Fusion 5 door A/C £91.19

For most of the week there'll be just 3 or 4 people per car, the only time it's going to get properly cramped is on the way from Alicante to the houses when there'll be 13 people in 3 cars.

Knowing very little about cars I'd probably go for the Clio 5 door.
If this is a bad idea can someone let me know!

I am happy to drive, J will do so if required,
Pete B is usually happy to drive (he's at outdoor show buying stupidly cheap ropes (70m for 50 quid !!!)
I'd thought one or both of  Alan and Peri will volunteer

Only once have i not been upgraded on cars so dont matter what we book
what we get will be different !  My feeling is Clios are fine, 3 or 5 doors
well if im driving i dont care :-) only a  couple of quid.

We might like to get 2 small and 1 larger (focus size) (and telll dave e to get small)

Latest situation is

Car 3.  Drivers Simon and Carmen
Car 4.  Drivers Tracy and Alan
Car 5.  Drivers Cef and Rob

I think we might be allowed more extra drivers for free, if this is the case then we can just keep adding people if and when they volunteer.   Probably not worth it if we have to pay though!

I'm happy to be a driver. I'd like the assistence of a good navigator though and someone to tell me the difference between left and right 'cos I get confused sometimes :P

I'm sure Mr Evans would help out, just remember to do the opposite of whatever he suggests  ;)

Hi - I've only got around to joining today (though I had a quick look last week).  I'm trying this to see what happens.

As far as cars and comfort go I am not particularly fussed either way.  The trip from Ailefroide to Turin a couple of years ago wasn't too comfortable (6 of us in a car) but it worked out alright.

I'll volunteer to be a driver if we are able to put more people down without being charged.

OK, I've booked 3 cars, two Clio 5-door and one Fusion 5-door (or equivalents).

They're in Alan's, Cef's, and my names.

They didn't ask for any details of extra drivers etc, we sort that out when we get there.  And also pay then, which is a shame as the exchange rate seems to be getting worse by the day!
