many insurance places don't do climbing/mountaneering
 
Many of us (me,j,cef,s,c) use austrian alpine club  google it )
which gives you mountaineering cover all year anywhere in the world,
covers rescue and repatriation etc. Costs about 30 quid i think. 

Doesnt cover baggae etc (i have an annual cover with egg i think) try moneysupermarket.com

Make sure you have a EHIC (replacement for E11- visit the post office and ask for one) in
case you need medical treatm,ent (for anything notjust climbing related)

Yes, we use AAC.  The main thing it gives you which you wouldn't get otherwise is that it covers the costs of repatriation.  The E111 covers any hospital bills etc, and rescue is (I think!) free in Spain.
Another option that many use is the BMC.
For standard travel insurance, we use whoever is cheapest on moneysupermarket.com.  We've just had a week in Noirway, for which we were charged about £3.80 each!  Note, your household contents may (or may not) cover you for baggage and money, worth checking.

I looked on moneysupermarket .com and the cheapest it came up with (£14) was £8 more expensive than one I found by looking round the net and just putting "travel insurance" and 'compare' into google.

Strange, the cheapest I get on moneysupermarket is £5.10.  And the most expensive is the Post Office, with £46

I got travel insurance thru moneysupermarket from Columbus and it was £5.85 - just regular coverage no extreme sports or anything. also noticed they only pay £100 per day if you're taken hostage
