Training session
« on: March 16, 2008, 06:37:37 pm »

A comment on another thread reminded me about this!  Someone sent an email, and it's all gone quiet since.  Is anything happening?
Other than Easter I think we're around any weekend, excluding 30th March.

good idea collect the data in oe palce, Cef sort of taken on sorting this but he's state-side so a bit quite at the moment (he's registered on here though).

Im not sure when im available - not the easter w/e (in scotland with yac) but prolly most other times

sal/deb how you fixed ? tracy wanted to come up which'd be fun

Things i think we need to cover :

1) gear - as the other thread what how much etc

2) technical - rethreading, abseiling, escaping/lowering , anything else ?????

3) experience - be very useful for people to get out to some real bolted rock if weather allows

get some scoff in as well would be fun to be social

Yes I am free the weekend of 28 March. Also this coming Easter weekend. Just let me know. I'll take train up - need somewhere to crash though.

I assume that by '28th' people mean 29th and 30th?
As I say, we're busy on 30th but can join you (preferably somewhere outdoors!) on 29th.

Hate to be a bother but can we sort out if & when the training session will be? My train tickets increase exponentially each day we get closer to the talked about weekend  :D

We really need to decide this, both for Tracy's rail ticket, and to make sure that we don't all end up double booking.
There seems to be a vague consensus for the weekend of Friday 28th to Sunday 30th.  So shall we fix it?  Unless people says No by the end of the day we'll assume it's unanimous :)

Could potentially start at the wall on Friday evening (Tracy, what time will you arrive?) and then move outside on Saturday depending on weather (various bolted limestone crags are possible with different degrees of loose rock!).  And those who are around can do something else on Sunday.

Depending on transport issues here I can either arrive at 21.15 or 22.00 on the Friday- just in time to join you all for a pint! I will need someone to put me up for the weekend though so please let me know if this is ok.

Can you make it for an outdoor session at any time?  You'd find it very useful!

I'm deliberately leaving the 29/30th clear but I'm now busy friday evening. I'll continue to consider the 29/30th busy until told otherwise!

Well on the one hand, yesterday I said "Unless people says No by the end of the day we'll assume it's unanimous", and nobody said No.

On the other hand, I'm not sure any more if everyone involved is available, if we can I think we really ought to try to get an outdoor session with all those who haven't been bolt clipping before.

Which doesn't help much I'm afraid, but I'm off to snowy Scotland in half an hour, maybe Rob can sort things later...

i propose we dont bother.  Cef will be on a course all w/e. Im meant to be somewhere else and was going to cancel but i wont bother, simon isnt about on sunday

Tracy save your money and time and we can go through anything you havent done in the house/crag.

Peri we can have a session at the york wall, my knee is seriously buggered so i can come along and spend some time.   Or Alan can tell you/show you all you need to know, practice is good.

Climbing outdoors on bolts would be beneficial for those that havent done it but thats still possible individually if keen, without trying to get people to commit to a date.

Sorry I haven't joined in earlier.  Can't get away outdoor climbing the weekend of the 28th, shame as it would have been beneficial - will have to have a baptism of fire in Spain!  As debs said we could do a couple of hours on the saturday at Oaklands and I could also get to Oaklands on Friday night?

As I've climbed on bolts outdoors before I'll save my dosh for tapas in spain - besides with our luck the weather one day is bound to be similar to a day on bolts along the north  yorkshire coast  ;)

see you all in Sunny (fingers crossed) spain ;D

hi rob, I'll definately get some practice with either you or alan if  you're willing - would rather look like an idiot faffing about getting it right at the wall than at the top of a route in spain.

im not clicmbing cos of my knee but will
