I have a neoprene knee support which I used to use after injuring my knee a few years back which I could lend you - might be helpful for spain if your knee is a bit crook.

I also have a neoprene knee support which I used in Scotland at the weekend for my own crocked knee. It certainly did its job, the side effect is that I now have a friction burn behind the knee to go with the original tendon problem!

i have a elastic knee support which is ok at keeping the swelling down (along with ice and ibruporfen) may appreciate
a loan in spain though :-)

tonight was the plan - what time do you get there normally -

prolly better to get some climbing in first then take a break and do some stuff.

if there is a course on we wont get onto the abseil bit (if we are allowed)
until after 9.

so i was thinking about 8.30 - give you time to get some routes in.

bring slings and screwgates and anythng else you have :-)

Rob, Sally has a problem with her wrist and wants to rest it for a few more days before she climbs. Is there any chance you could do this one night next week with us.
In case its any help, one of the instructors at Oaklands showed us how to attach ourselves to the top hook with a sling and thread the rope through to be lowered back down thingy

not sure if/when they are free.

its great you've been shown and are happy to re-thread and lower. make sure you practice it cos
the first time you do it for real you want to be confident.

Hi Rob

Seeing as how its going to be useful to us, I can be fairly flexible providing I'm given a bit of notice. I have been shown once by alan, and there is also an article in the latest issue of Summit, so I reckon I will be able to do it ok, but a bit of practice would be nice, rather than trying to do it from on top of a crag trying to listen to bellowed instructions being blown away by the wind. If you dont have time then I can try and practice with Helen and James tonight, but if we do all get a practice session arranged then I think we (the numpties) should pay for your wall entrance fee that session.

its better to practice and ask questions than to do it from a book/articel (which are useful)
there are many things one can encounter on routes so its best to be flexible and understand
whats going on so you can adapt, thats easier with practice session.

im around next week so if we can agree a date (and keep it) i think we can sort it.
Not sure what peoples plans are for next fri (pete will be her at some point) but
thast prolly not ideal o chance to practice on the banisters !

I was hoping to cover 3 things in order of importance
1)re-threading,
2) escaping
3) abseiling

2 is easy especially if you can do 1 and 3 ! there are some gotchas though which people shuold be aware of.
might like to think about prussic loops (personal choice -i reccomend them) 5mm (or 6 or even 4) cord about 1 meter. ideally 2 but i usually only carry ! anyway enough for now

ive got a few free tickets left so no worries about that

When I learned how to untie & lower off I practiced at the climbing wall. I would lead a climb, untie and rethread etc before my partner lowered me off. It was great practice. I did it everytime I led. It really helped- I was nervous the first time outdoors but I knew what I could do. The key is get the system down so you could do it with your eyes closed - like your figure of 8 knot.

Rob, I've got some tat for a prussik but never tied one I'll by you a beer or give you an extra slice of lemon cake if you show me how to tie & use it.

cool, what tracy says holds true so if we can get down the wall early in the week gives time for practice
on our own (or using the house)

im in sheffield one day next week but not bad for other nights.

Yep I can make Tuesday, not sure about climbing, have laid off climbing all last week, so hoping it will be ok. but will come along any way to meet up and catch up with all the complicated arrangements! Oh and to meet anyone that I have not seen before - it's too late to back out now folks!
