pembroke
« on: June 23, 2008, 03:20:44 pm »

I know its early days, but I'v been having  having a bit of a snoop round the online guides, and after alarming myself that I'v volunteered to organise a meet with all hard stuff I'v come up with a page listing lots of very accessible stuff too. Phew! http://www.climber.co.uk/categories/articleitem.asp?cate=1&topic=16&item=86

should be more than enough here to keep us very happy for the bank holiday weekend

here are the trip details, copied from the email I snet round on the 30th(?) july
The Pembroke trip is coming up  - august bank holiday weekend 22/25 august. its a camping trip, and I'v planned for us to stay at the St Petrox campsite, which gets good writeups, has hot showers and allows 'tended barbeques' (which I am prepared to organise if the weather looks good and people fancy it). Morning alarm calls can be provided courtesy of my patented "exploding camp stove" system.

Lots of great sea cliff climbing, yes its known for hard stuff but theres plenty at our sort of grades to keep us busy, and beaches to cool off afterwards. It goes without saying there is good walking, and I expect theres plenty to keep the cyclists busy too (though why you would want to cycle with all those lovely cliffs available I can't imagine)

Tide times here:
http://www.climbers-club.co.uk/tides/STAC0808.HTM

Low tides are late in the day, so no need for early starts - which is just as well, as most of YAC don't do early  ;)

Though for the early risers among us, there are some non-tidal crags around.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=3360

Currently says Saturday - very wet, Sunday/Monday - sunny but strong winds coming off the sea.

This will inevitably change sveral times over the next 24 hours, and then be wrong anyway.

pembroke campsites closed due to waterlogging >   :(

See emails circulating for latest news, but it looks as if we may be stuffed on this one. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions (and as I currently have no home internet connection my opportunities for research are limited) then please throw them into the discussion via the email list

Cef is googling to se if he can find any bunkhouses in pembroke, buts its bank holiday weekend...

merde. we are stuffed as far as pembroke is concerned. Sorry, guys. But as the weather locally doesnt look too bad we are planning to get out locally over the bank holiday instead - possibly the dales - Simon has an esoteric crag on his mind which does in fact look quite nice. we will have to go back top pembroke another time.
