Are we paying for accommodation there in cash or has someone already paid and we pay at the end of the hols? Just curious on how many euros to extract from the hole in the wall. :D

From Salvatore (the landlord):
on saturdays shops close at 8 p.m., on sunday morning (8-12 a.m.) you can find a supermarket (Supermercato Sigma) open in Dorgali (7 kms. from Cala Gonone).
You can also probably find something open at Cagliari airport or on the way here.

The total is 1395 Euros which is 93 each.  This includes Cef, I've emailed Salvatore to see if it's too late for a refund.
I've already paid 400 Euros deposit, the rest needs to be paid in cash when we get there.

From Salvatore:
As regards payment of balance for the apartment\s and other possible expenses you are going to have, may we remind you that in Cala Gonone there is not a bank, but only a post office, which does not have a cash machine. There is a bank cash machine, but often for some reason it does not work. Consequently, better and easier to get cash before arrival, either at the airport\port you arrive at in Sardinia, or in the small town of Dorgali, km.7 from Cala Gonone, and exactly on the way to get to us. In the town of Dorgali there are 3 banks\cash machines, and at least some one of them must be working. We could let you know before arrival how to find them fairly easily.

My I suggest those who havent blagged a bed, blag one now. it will be easier to allocate, er, I mean get volunteers, to drive a car parked outside the house you're sleeping in. I know it sounds picky but last year even though the houses were in the same terrace one house had one driver and another had twenty drivers (or close to it, it seemed) and it affected flexibility and increased dithering time first thing.

Since nobody else seems to care about anything I'll allocate places randomly.  You can then schedule some complaining time to disagree with these random allocations.

Some people have asked about arrangements for arrival:

Possibly text-call my mobile before arrival in Cala Gonone and-or when you leave the airport in Sardinia.

Most important, please text-call my mobile (see below) from the petrol station-garage at the entrance of Cala Gonone; this is called "PUDDU CARBURANTI-FUEL-OIL".

In case you cannot get through my mobile for whatever reason, please call from the petrol station-garage in Cala Gonone the other number you have got, that is +39 (0)784 93613, and say slowly in italian "SIAMO AL DISTRIBUTORE", which means "WE ARE AT PETROL STATION". Someone will collect you from the garage. Alternatively use our mobile numbers; see below.

From the garage first try my mobile, though, 00 39 333 4307435, alternatively Katia's mobile, and if this does not work, then dial our home N° 00 39 (0)784 93613

SALVATORE'S MOBILE +39 333-4307435
KATIA'S MOBILE +39 339-7795962
TELEPHONE (home) +39 (0)784-93613 or 93186

In case we do not already have them, it might be useful for us to have some mobile-phone number-s you may take with you to Sardinia, in the event we needed to either text or phone you.

Furthermore, may we remind you not to possibly forget your mobile-phone\s battery-charger\s and to take with you an adaptor you may need to fit our-italian plugs-sockets.

So - can I have a mobile phone number or two from those who are taking them?

OK, how's this

1: 5 beds (1 double, 1 twin, 1 in living area).  me, Carmen, Alan, Guido, Dave E
2: 5 beds (1 double, 3 in living area).  Peri, Dave D, Karen, Andrew, Pete E
3: 4 beds (1 double + 2 in living area).  Rob, Jules, Tracey, Pete B.

Edit: amended as Pete E will be walking not climbing due to a slight mishap at the weekend.

House 2 will have only one driver, but I don't see any problems with having a 2nd driver in 1 of the other houses. DME has kindly volunteered.

Directions from the airport to Cala Gonone

When driving your car towards Cala Gonone, do use satellite directions if you wish to, but only till the town of Dorgali.
From the town of Dorgali possibly follow my directions to Cala Gonone, then the road from Dorgali to Cala Gonone that the satellite device often for some reason indicates, is winding, the view is beautiful, but I would take it only at day time, certainly not in your case, that is, please ...!!!

Cagliari-Elmas airport-Cala Gonone, by car.

The car trip from Cagliari airport to Cala Gonone will take about 2hrs+30min\3 hrs. You should possibly have a road map of Sardinia and if you have a satellite device it is easier and safer. Here follow some instructions  which I reckon to be correct, however in case you'd a doubt, don't hesitate to ask someone for more info.
In any case you must take the dual carriage way ”131 “, look for and follow the signs towards ORISTANO and SASSARI, and after maybe approx. 1 hour drive, towards NUORO...!
DO NOT TAKE take the 125\coastal road! The correct road to be taken again is the “131-dcn”, which is a good dual carriageway (superstrada, in italian) ! Of course you're not going to drive neither to Oristano, nor to Sassari, nor to Olbia, but towards Nuoro..!. However, you ought to possibly avoid driving into the town of Nuoro, which would be a waste of time.

Attention!!! Once in the outskirts of Nuoro, (called “zona industriale”), slow down, and you will have two choices; (again , no need to drive into the town of Nuoro in any case):

1st choice (the best one):
From Nuoro drive further, straight “towards” the town of Olbia till, after about km.25 from Nuoro, you must FORGET about Olbia and take the turning at approx. km.N° 70, for the towns of Lula, etc., plus Dorgali, where the sign says “USCITA (EXIT) DORGALI, km.20”; watch out.. !!! if you choose this solution YOU MUST NOT MISS THE ABOVE TURNING! Turn right towards and until DORGALI (follow the signs).
Once in Dorgali-Durgali, unless you want to, do not drive into the town, but at the beginning of it (watch out for the sign posts) take either the ring-road to the left (easier) or the one to the right (called “circonvallazione in italian) direction of Cala Gonone; it will take you around the town of Dorgali, without having to drive into it. After about km.1 of this road, drive straight out of Dorgali, one more kilometer till you find 2 tunnels on your left hand side. Drive through the first short tunnel on the left, (it's about mt. 700 long) and further down to Cala Gonone; (km.7 from Dorgali). From the petrol station in Cala Gonone at the beginning of the town, (their sign-post says PUDDU CARBURANTI, OIL-FUEL) please possibly call me on the following: (+39)-333-4307435, or otherwise (+39) -0-784-93613 or 93186, so that we can meet you along road. Have a good trip and give me a ring or send a short message when you are approaching the village, especially in the event that you need any help. Of course it's not as complicated as it seems and you could always ask somebody at a petrol station or wherever if you needed help.

2nd choice:
You leave the 131, follow the signs and drive towards Nuoro (-Badu 'e Carros-). Take the road and follow the signs towards the town of Oliena, (km.15, or so from Nuoro) and from Oliena you drive to the town of Dorgali, (about km.20 from Oliena). Once in Dorgali, follow the above directions.

Another option would be to have 4 people in house 1 and 6 in house 2. Apparently the 5th bed in (1) is a fold-down bed not a proper one. But this would mean having a 3rd person in A&K's room, so I'm leaving things as they are unless someone tells me otherwise.

He fell off his bike.  Andrew and the others didn't want to spoil their day so left him to find his own way back. Unfortunately, he was attacked by wild boars on the way home, and they bit his arm off.
But Andrew had a nice bike ride, which is the main thing  ;D

hhm seeing as it's Britain I assume he was more than likely attacked by badgers - the others probably saw them coming and scarpered!  ;D
