luggage and gear
« on: March 20, 2009, 03:30:38 pm »

For those worried about luggage weight, barnitts are selling spring balances with nice hooks you can hang your luggage on that measure all the way up to 50kg, and they only cost a fiver.

on another angle - lets rationalise ropes between us - its pointless everybody carrying their own.  How many of us will be climbing? I have  two sixty metre half ropes for starters.

I have heard rumours there are certain routes that require it if you really insist on looking for them, but personally I cant be arsed. I'm sure there are more than enough pure sports routes to keep us busy.

we have 20kg each in the hold and I seem to remember  an unlimited hand luggae
but them being fussy about the size of the hand luggage bag last year

there are trad routes but most seem quite long and mostly hard  (6c)

there are tons of pure bolt clipping but id recommend a 60m rope for that (havent checkd the new
guide for the lengths we had a 60m)

How do people feel about each climber bring one 60m rope?  When climbing if both ropes are skinnies it should be ok, if one's a skinny and one's a fatty, the owner of the fatty can lead the long run-outs  :o...  if abbing on odd sizes don't use a Shunt as backup.

Carmen and I will sort out our own stuff, so long as we've got enough gear between us all we can climb with different people during the week (I was going to say swap partners but can't face the inevitable jokes).

For info, I think we'll take our 70m rope.

jokes ... its the shock to the system that would cause -  new world order,

if we have space/weight J+I will take 1 60m single and a pair of 60m halves (or just one 60 half),  a set of wires
and loads of QDs.  Pete B is taking his 70m rope and i think tracy is contemplating a 60m half rope.

Pete E should have a lot of space now  >:(

Hi Peeps

I've trial packed my 'cargo bag' with 1 60m full rope in a rope bag, 2 60m half ropes, about 15 qds, a set of wires,
a few cams, slings harness, chalk bafg, tape, wash kit, pair of shoes and clothes and its still less than 19Kg -
so space/weight is not an issue. (we have 20 each!)

Plus you have 'unlimited' hand luggage as long as it is under 40 cm x 55cm x 20 cm - which is quite small, but dense stuff
(eg rock shoes - no slings/harness/metal stuff)  will fit easily.

right as i understand it the rope tally is:
simon/carmen : 1 70m single
rob/julie: 1 60m single, two 60m halves
pete B: 1 70m single
tracy: 1 60m half
guido: 1 60m single
Peri: 2 60m halves
Alan: I think alan is bringing a 60m rope - dont know if half or single
Dave E: unknown but probably no need for any more ropes to be brought

total number of climbers:11 (Pete E is not climbing due to a broken hand). that means 5 teams ( i can do sums, me) so we seem to have more than enough ropes between us. But doesnt seem like a worry anyway - rob reckons he has packed his bags and got nowhere near the rope limit so I guess we dont really need to worry about rationalising.

now all i have to do is remember not to pack two left climbing shoes ;-D

my point is we dont need to rationalise it too much, so dont tell dave e not to bring  a rope !

I'd rather have too many with ropes sitting around unused than being short of ropes and having to make
do and pair up non matching ropes/lengths/weights.

I packed all my kit and 3 ropes and it totalled 21.5Kg so btween pairs its easy to sort out the weight
