Who's going?
« on: January 13, 2010, 04:37:22 pm »

Hi all

as you know we have the Camping Barn on Lundy island booked for seven nights from 20th august 2011.

The barn sleeps 14 so the anticipated cost will  be in the region of £90 per person for the weeks accomodation, actual final cost will be dependent on 2011 prices. The barn itself is very nice - I'v had a peek in and its like one of the best climbing huts, "camping barn" is a bit of a misnomer.   The island is a climbers paradise, with superb granite cliffs at every grade from three star diffs to E-silly, and the scenery and wildlife are superb (I'm going to sneak off for a snorkelling trip one day).

http://www.javu.co.uk/Climbing/Lundy/index.shtml

Lundy is situated in the middle of the Bristol channel and you get to and from it by ferry which is a two hour trip either way and currently costs £56 return. The ferry runs to and from ilfracombe in north devon at around 11 am, so you will probably want to travel down the previous day and  stop overnight in ilfracombe - there is a  a really nice, cheap, backpackers hostel right by the harbour, or you could use one of the nearby campsites. There are also sailings from Bideford.  You will need to book tickets for the fery about three months in advance (ie not yet) and i will remind people and give links and phone numbers round about this time. Ditto the hostel or camping - people dont need to sort this out till much nearer the time.

Now, to business. this is going to be a popular trip, and the club had to stump up a 30% deposit in advance, so we are asking people to put down a similar deposit -£30 - in advance to secure their places. The deposit isnt refundable, but if anyone really needs to back out they are unlikely to have any difficulty geting someone else to take their place - we had to book this far in advance because the island gets booked up so early!

So to secure your place, names and deposits to me (cheques to york alpine club, not me), because we are opening bookings now!

correction.
Rich and jenny meant the easter trip not lundy. Annie woke me up at 7.30 this morning to book. Miraculously I can still remember this fact after my morning cup of tea.

so the list so far is:
Simon and Carmen
Fantastic Mr Fox and debra
Evans the fall
Rob
Me (peri)
Cef

copy of email to all yac members 28/2/2010

Hi guys

The balance of the money for Lundy will be due on 20th may so I want to get all bookings finalised before then. there are currently four places still available, but I believe Paul and probably Jamie would like to take up two of them. That leaves two places available.  If you would like to go then drop me a line - its primarily a  climbing meet , the island is only a couple of miles long, but the climbing and location are fantastic - get your £30 deposit to me (payable to York Alpine Club), and be ready to have the balance paid by 20th may. Prices have not increased much since we booked, so assuming we fill all the places the balance for accomodation will be £61 per person . You will also need to book your ferry places , and the advice is to also do this around three months beforehand ie in may.

(Cef, you have already paid the full £2010 amount so just need to pay the extra £3 increase for 2011 prices )

for more details of this trip see the forum post http://yorkalpineclub.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=61.0 (main bit helpfully pasted in for you below)

In the unlikely event that there are still unfilled places by mid april I will then open the trip up to non club members
