I'm happy to drive from our house. I know Carmen and Peri would both rather not, so that leaves Pete E as 2nd driver (we just have to remember to shout 'drive on the left' at every junction).

been doing a bit of digging.

extra drivers are typically 5 quid per day, and some places charge 5 quid per day local road tax but others don't mention it - i am not sure if that means they don't charge it or just don't tell you

carhire3000.com seems about the best deal for a 'Compact' (bravo) at 138 + extra driver + excess

argusrenatls is a bit cheaper for basic one but close

are we looking at 3 medium-ish Compact cars

I assume that we are going to hire 3 cars and divide the costs - so we need to agree what we doing - if not speak up

Etna  - 5 hours each way is IMHO nuts  (York to Tyndrum - climb for a day and come back!) - but if people want to do it that up to them - but whose gonner drive ? might need 2 drivers on that car - Maybe if andrew is willing ?  Are there trains ?

sadly I think rob may be right on Etna - a shame. Guess I'm gulty of doing what we accuse australians and americans of when they visit britain - "you live in york? you must know my friends in Skye then!"

holidayautos have astra-type for £137, plus excess, plus 35 euros second driver - I assume this is the same deal as carhire3000. In fact, there are quite a few with the same price, give or take a pound or two - they probably all use the same local company.

I'd have thought that anywhere that doesn't mention extra charges for local taxes, can't charge them - but worth checking the small print :)

I'll do the same.

So if Andrew's sorting himself out, I think that just leaves Steve or Cef to book something???

Hi All. We are back from Chatel and note your progress on the cars Paula and myself will 100% be having our own car so room available  for Cef to join I will also need a guide book can someone confirm details again so I can get it together please. Assuming we are going climbing at the same crags and we have a mixed ability of climbers who will be part of a group or is the planned to all do our own thing as I do not have a climbing partner so need to sort out who I can approach to climb with and what grades / gear to bring if shearing equipment. Will be at the Leeds wall Wednesday all being well, Cheers. Steve.

Hi Steve hope you had a good time

details  and link of the guide and  the car place and the are in the other post titled
'Details and Links Summary'. We have 3 copies of the guide already

as for partners - usually we go as a group to one or two places depending on the size of the place (number of routes at our grades) and the number of us. Last year we have been usually to one or two, sometimes 3 if people have target routes.  In theory we mix and match partners a bit, though that doesn't always happen and often people end up with their usual climbing partners (S&C, Julie&I
etc) but often on  single pitch place its easy to swap about as appropriate (2 years back i climbed / belayed with at least Pete B, Julie, Tracy, Carmen, Simon, Alan W)

As for gear as long as their are notional partners (ie S&C, J&I, T&P) leaves Cef, Pete E, Peri and you to sort 2  pairs.  Just need a rack and ropes (that we trust) between each pair, plus personal gear - there is a link on the summary page under 'Kit List'

Cheers
