Getting to Stansted
« on: February 19, 2010, 05:11:00 pm »

Andrew says:
I'm more than happy to go with Steve and Paula, unless it makes more sense
for them to take people (2) who would find Askham Bryan a more convenient
pick up point than down town York. I live across the Stray from S&C (see
below)

How is Cef getting to Sicily? If he's making his own way there, I think
there are a total of 9 people going to Stanstead from North Yorks, of which
2 are already booked to take their car and have two places going free.
Presuming both seats are taken, that leaves just 5 people.

I have a 5 seater car, but it will use a lot of diesel because the guy who
knows about aerodynamics was sick the Friday afternoon they designed my car.
S&C have offered their car, but I don't know if the alternatives to my bus
are another 5 seater or two cars. I'd much rather be a passenger this trip,
but my car now has tyres as well as brakes-Peri!
Are my sums right?

I assume Cef will be back in York!

Rob & co - any plans to go via Tracey's like last year? If so that will affect this discussion.

We could possibly fit 5 in our car but much more comfortable with 4!

not sure my sister lives near so we might go visit her on friday night but she's often away
so may go down Sat or even do the Tracy thing or some other people in cambridge !

so that's easy then ! - suggest we (J+I) sort ourselves out for now, and see what happens closer
to the date.

Cef is off radar again  ....

Yes I too have an alter ego... I have a lift to and from cambridge if no one in york is coming this way. I'd  just like to have some notice either way.

I won't book a parking space for my car at Stansted then.
I would prefer to get a lift with a York based driver, please.

Peter, Andrew, Carmen, me

So that's everyone I think.

hi steve, it would probably be better if I drive us all down to stanstead and pick you and paula up from west york (i think thats where you live?) en route, as leaving cars parked at askam bryan college car park for a week is not feasable and its a pig to get to without a car, so its no good as a pick up/meeting  place for holidays. Cef doesnt seem to be picking up email at present although I can try his phone, but he lives very near me, so its very easy for me to pick him up. I'v been trying to get hold of him to discuss transport sharing before making firm arrangements.

I assume we could easily switch the car park booking at stanstead from your car to mine.

Hi Peri We live in Askham Bryan and have secured parking. We are driving our car to Stansted as me and Paula can share the driving if necessary there and back with full insurance.

Hi Peri.I don't suppose you have got hold of Cef yet. As we need to know if we are travelling down to stanstead with passengers or not, as if we are on are own we can stay at my sisters whom lives in Peterborough. As Cef is not contactable I am not going to hold my plans on a possible he will have to arrange his own way. If I Don't here anything by Tuesday we will be making our way down Friday afternoon. Cheers for now. Steve.

Pete E's crew you may want to take the train from Bishop's Stortford (leaves  every 10 min) and takes 10 min. http://www.buytickets.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/timetableresults.aspx

We East Anglians know all the tricks! ;)

Not knowing where Bishop's Stortford is in relation to Stansted...

Would it make sense for Peter to drop some/all of us off at the airport (with kit) before driving to BS and getting train/bus back? Would avoid paying for 4 tickets, and also faffing around with lots of bags. Could maybe do the same for the way back.

Bishops Stortford is 5 mi from Stansted Airport http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Can purchase rail tickets online & can pick them up at York rail station if easier. http://www.buytickets.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/ticketmatrix.aspx?Command=TimeTable

Train going back from Stansted to BS is at 00:30 http://www.buytickets.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/timetableresults.aspx.

The rail station at Stansted is just under the airport.  Closer than the coach actually. Obviously it's up to you lot.
