Guidebooks and topos
« on: March 11, 2008, 07:52:11 am »

as simon and cef have said ...

1. Rockfax Costa Blanca guide.  The first 3 chapters cover our area,
though a couple of other sections are within driving distance.  An
excellent book, and it's all in English.  £19.95.
http://www.rockfax.com/publications/books/item.php?id=86

2. Escalada en Sierra Espuña
The local guide, new and shiny bright, with Spanish and English text,
some is also in Rockfax but most isn't. 20 Euros.

3. Escaladas en el municipio de Murcia
Some other crags in the area, with rather more overlap with Rockfax.
Spanish only.  12 Euros.

Some more topos
« Reply #2 on: March 14, 2008, 07:49:42 pm »

I've added some more topos to the Spain page at http://members.yorkalpineclub.org.uk/spain/
The crags are near Cartagena, on the coast.  El Portus has a crag right on the beach, which is supposed to be pretty good.  Oh, and it's next to a naturist campsite...

Guidebooks

Here's what we have, can people add to this thread with anything else they got or printed?

Rockfax guide.  I have one, Cef has one.  Anybody else?  It's probably the most useful book of them all.

Sierra Espuna.  We have a club copy, and 3 more on order, should be enough.

Murcia.  We have a club copy and 2 more on order.  Probably enough, as the best crag is also in Rockfax.

Topos from the web.
I have printed copies Portus (Cartagena), El Almorchon, El Valle, and Mula (the big version).

i also have a road map (1/400,000 Michelen map) and a road map of all spain

Yes should have said it's only the most recent (2005 ish) Rockfax guide that's got the Murcia crags in.  The old Chris Craggs Cicerone guide has one of them as well (I've got a copy, will bring it along).

I have a 1:200,000 roadmap of Murcia region, and we have a couple of 1,25,000 maps of Sierra Espuna on order.  David was going to try to get some cheap road maps locally, otherwise I'm sure we can pick something up from a garage when we get there.

I've also got the Jingo Wobbly Euro cragging guide (another which just shows locations), but won't bring it as it's of limited use and quite heavy.  Unless someone else wants to take it.

The 2nd edition, 1997.
On second thoughts, I won't bring it, the only crag covered is Leiva, which is also in Rockfax and Sierra Espuna.
