Transport - getting to and from M/C airport
« on: March 12, 2008, 11:53:22 am »

TO/FROM MANCHESTER.

many of us are on the same flights (or fairly close to). Seems sensible to sahre lift to /from the airport to minimise
costs and enviromental impact!  So we need to know how many people are going with wo and where from (tracey is
arriving from London and Andrew and Karen are coming out later and Pete B  isnt sure where hell to start frorm).

that leave Simon, Carmen,  Cef, Rob, Jules, Debbie, Sally, Pete E (returning earlier!!!), Alan , Peri, Dave D,
ie 11 or 12 of us (if Pete B comes to York) = 3 cars.

Debbie and Sally are coming back earlier but andrew and karen can tak etheir places in the return trip - so that's very neat!
meaning we ned 3  cars from Rob, Cef, Simon, Alan, Peri, Dave D, Pete E

so i suggest we get into groups of 4 and sort it that way and sort out costs on a per car basis - fuel/parking etc etc

Airport Parking....

Ive usally parked at airparks in handsworth airparks.co.uk  22.59

others ...

Ive already got my car booked into airport parking. Me and Sal will be travelling together but could fit another in if anyone wants a lift. Its only a fiesta so think 2 more people might be pushing it with luggage too.

might work with one more in there - depending on Pete B

thast'd leave us with 8 (possibly 9) peeps left, big cars (Cef, Alan, Pete) would be better than small Simon...

Um, that only works if Debbie and Sally don't need to get back to York from the airport!

Assuming they're sorted, and Pete E is going by himself (different return flight), on the way out we have

Simon, Carmen, Cef, Rob, Jules, Alan, Peri, Dave D and maybe Pete B
with Andrew and Karen on the return.

So still need 3 cars out of the above.

To disagree with Rob (again), there doesn't seem much point in trying to squeeze anyone else in with Debbie and Sally, as they're returning a day early and so couldn't take them back home again anyway (and it's on the return that we'll be pushed for space).

Unless I've done my sums wrong we're not left with 8 (or 9), we're left with 10 (or 11).

hmm  squeezing 1 person into a fiesta wouldnt be hard 2 would be hence the reduction

coming back is of course more awkward as a+k will be with us but we would have lost a car.

i think i'll bow out now as its becoming too arithmetically complicated for me to work out !

I guess we need to wait to find out exactly what Peter and Peter intend doing before deciding as this will make a big difference.

sorry, havnt kept up with this thread, me and alan are on the same flight so makes sense for us to travel together, I'm happy to take my car. Skoda fabia hatchback so probably two people if we each have a weeks stuff, could probably get two passengers plus luggage in if they are not too fussy about space and comfort.

There are 9 people in all on the same flights, plus another two (Andrew & Karen) returning at the same time.  So we'll be taking 2 or 3 cars depending on A&K's plans!

I SAID WE'RE WAITING FOR PETER BRADSHAW - CAN YOU HEAR ME?!

Debbie + Sal

what are you doing with your car- are you not flying from M/C and back to Doncaster ? If so how's that work ?

Pete E suggested last night in pub that maybe he could take you in his car to M/C leaving you
to gte train back from Donny (he has to drive to/from M/c anyhow)

I can take my car, it will hold 5 people and luggage.  It will be a little bit cramped but for the 80-90 minutes to Manchester airport shouldnt be to bad.

Rob,, me and Sal are flying from manchester to alicante but coming back into manchester from murcia. Ive booked my car in already at some airport parking. It was the cheapest parking i could find so the car might be stood on bricks when I get back. ;D

Sorry - someone say something? - too busy sleeping...
Actually, too busy working to spend all day on forums...

Anyhows, my currently thinking is to drive over to York Friday pm and travel down to Manc with everyone else. If, however, that doesn't work out with cars, etc. I'll drive directly to Manc myself.

i think that might work well,

could have a curry/pre holiday piss up/climb/injury gatherng/ at the wall or pack (in simons case :-)

which by my reckonong would leave 5 in cefs car , and 4 in another - blimey a plan is starting to form !

(a,k,s,d,pe,t,de to sort selves)

has that been agreed /taken up ?

if so can i suggest you guys sort that between s,c,a,k - will you have enough room in tir motor for ll 4 - we could easily
share redistribute baggage on way back

leaving us 7 (cef, peteb,r,j,dd,a,p) to divide into a 3 and 4 ?

if not I think a 5 and a 4 with largish cars would be best
