Glen Etive
22-25 February 2001

The hut was situated at the end of Glen Etive, with wonderful views over Loch Etive to Ben Cruachan. The weather over the weekend was very good for the time of year, despite various constantly changing forecasts. Simon C described the Sunday as having among the best days' weather he has ever had in Scotland.

Stob Coir' an AlbannaichOn Thursday night, Pauline was found waiting at the hut at midnight, after skiing in Aviemore for a few days. The next day, everyone slept in as it lashed it down outside. Come lunchtime it brightened up, and Debra and Simon F went up Ben Trilleachan and back by the loch side - not as flat as expected! Simon C, Carmen, Pauline and Charles went up Stob Coir' an Albannaich and Meall nan Eun. Simeon and Danny travelled up on the Friday, taking in an ascent of Stob a' Choire Odhair en route. Danny learnt why it was advisable to always carry crampons at this time of year!

Buachille Etive MorOn Saturday, Debra, Simon F, Simeon and Danny went up the north ridge of Ben Starav - a lovely alpine walk. Charles attempted the same peak from the south but found it harder than expected and retreated. Simon C and Carmen went up Buachille Etive Mor and traversed the rest of the ridge. They characterised the weekend by seeing sunset from the top of the last summit, thereby not getting back to the road until some hours after sunset - Simeon was duly worried!

On Sunday, Danny and Simeon went up Ben Trilleachan. Simon and Carmen drove to Bridge of Orchy and went up Beinn an Dothadh and Beinn Dorrain, and Charles walked from the hut, traversed over Stob Gabhar and met them at Bridge of Orchy.
