And once again a week of cold sunny weather was replaced by a weekend of cloud and rain. But undaunted, 13 of us joined the club meet in the excellent Lowstern hut just outside Clapham for a weekend of activity and eating.
Saturday was due to be the better day of weather so most people headed off for an ascent of Pen-y-ghent and Plover Hill – where the forecast turned out to be over optimistic and they all got wet. Carmen and I headed to Hellifield for a cycle on a combination of roads and the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath, where the weather was slightly better, with no rain and even some sunshine. Others went for a variety of mountain bike ridges near Clapham.
The weather gods relented slightly, giving us a lot of heavy overnight rain which stopped just as we were stirring. On Sunday, most opted for cycling, with a large group taking bridleways over the hill to Horton and back. A few of us went to Ingleton for a stroll around the Waterfalls Walk, which was at its best due to the previous night's rain. Ice creams were eaten.
Even though conditions weren't the best, it was still another great meet, at one of my favourite huts.
